About Me
Who am I?
I grew up on a farm in Germany as the second of four children. Mom was strict – we played outside as much as the weather allowed and came Home with open knees many a time. A childhood heaven!
Boarding school and Teachers College later, I found myself married, living in a different State in Germany and unable to find a job. What to do? Unintentionally, I landed in an administrative job! My goodness, I even liked it! Within the next 6 years my career boomed and being the executive and confidential Assistant to one of the 5 Senior Vice Presidents of one of the largest German travel agencies turned out to be a demanding and extremely rewarding position that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Then, my husband was transferred to Toronto and everything changed. My German work experience didn’t count much; I had to start again at the bottom. On and off, for the next 15 years or so, I worked in the corporate world until one day …. I had enough and quit.
What now? I knew I could do better and serve better, in a different way, but how? Add AssistU, a prestigious Virtual Assistant Training company. I enrolled in its 20-week Certification Program and hung my shingle in 2010. I finally had found a way to put my expertise to work in my own business and with a small and select circle of clients.
I love exploring new tools, and have been the co-leader of AssistUs Efficiency Tools Special Interest Group. The group’s purpose was to share knowledge among AssistU members; to learn of, and to explore, new tools or practices. Being an active member of the AssistU community also gives me access to its vast membership site resources.
On a personal note, I was an active member of a local Toastmasters group for 8 years; I sat on its Executive for 4 of these years, as Sargent of Arms, and as VP Membership. Taking a twenty-week long writing course helped me deal with some of my inhibitions I had about my writing skills for many years.
I love fun, laughter, entertaining, movies, reading, walking. I am spontaneous and open and adventurous. You can find me at the coffee house enjoying an ad hoc coffee with a girlfriend, or lending an open ear to someone in need. I am outgoing and enjoy a good dose of humor. My life philosophy is “There is positive in every negative, and sometimes it’s just a matter of digging deep to find it.”
Becoming a Virtual Assistant turned out to be the best decision I could have made. I LOVE my clients and the connection we create together that culminates in our working as a solid team.
